The Delray Beach Chamber will be hiring a Director of Business Development and Membership. This is a senior leadership role responsible
for driving the Chamber’s membership growth, retention, engagement, and overall revenue strategy. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position serves as a strategic partner in advancing the Chamber’s mission through a strong and growing membership base.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, leading all membership initiatives while personally executing key sales, engagement, and retention efforts. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports currently. The Director is expected to build scalable systems, processes, and programs that support future growth of the membership function.
The ideal candidate is a high-performing sales and relationship leader with a strong strategic mindset, capable of building a best-in-class membership program that increases member value and grows the Chamber from approximately 800 to 1,000+ members.

Key Responsibilities
Membership Strategy, Growth & Revenue Leadership
- Own and drive all membership revenue goals, including acquisition, retention, and upgrades.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive, data-driven membership growth strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Establish and refine membership tiers, pricing strategies, and value propositions to maximize revenue and engagement.
- Identify and cultivate new revenue opportunities, including sponsorships, partnerships, and enhanced member offerings.
- Lead strategic prospecting efforts through market research, data analysis, and community engagement.
- Create and implement scalable sales processes, pipelines, and performance tracking systems.
Membership Sales, Retention & Engagement
- Personally lead membership sales efforts, including outreach, relationship cultivation, and closing new, renewed, and upgraded memberships.
- Design and implement retention strategies that enhance member experience, satisfaction, and long-term value.
- Oversee and continuously improve onboarding processes to ensure new members are effectively integrated and engaged.
- Drive engagement through programs such as Chairman’s Club, Ambassador Program, LEADS groups, and industry-specific initiatives.
- Ensure consistent and proactive communication with members, including timely renewals and management of past-due accounts.
- Develop peer-to-peer and referral-based membership growth initiatives.
Data, Systems & Performance Management
- Ensure optimal use and strategic oversight of the Chamber’s CRM/database to support accurate tracking, reporting, and segmentation.
- Analyze membership data to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities.
- Develop and monitor KPIs related to membership growth, retention, engagement, and revenue.
- Provide regular reporting to the President & CEO and Board on membership performance and strategic progress.
- Build a data-driven approach to guide decision-making and continuous improvement.
Collaboration & Organizational Alignment
- Partner closely with the Marketing Director to develop compelling membership messaging, campaigns, and sales materials.
- Collaborate with the Program Director to ensure events and programs drive membership growth, engagement, and retention.
- Work with leadership, Board members, and committees to align membership strategies with broader organizational priorities.
- Support the Membership Committee and Board Membership Chair through regular communication, reporting, and strategic input.
Community Engagement & External Relations
- Serve as a visible and active ambassador for the Chamber within the business community.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business leaders, stakeholders, and strategic partners.
- Represent the Chamber at events, networking functions, and public engagements.
- Position the Chamber as a leading resource and advocate for the local business community.
Program & Experience Oversight
- Oversee and continuously enhance key membership-related programs and initiatives, including:
- New Member Onboarding (luncheons, orientations, mentoring programs)
- Ambassador Program
- LEADS groups and affinity programs
- Chairman’s Club and premium membership offerings
- Ensure all programs deliver strong ROI, engagement, and perceived member value.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven success in sales, business development, or membership growth roles.
- Demonstrated ability to drive revenue growth, preferably in a membership-based or nonprofit organization.
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to execute and deliver measurable results.
- Experience developing and implementing membership or customer growth strategies.
- Proficiency in CRM/database management and data analysis.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Highly organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience working with boards, committees, and volunteers preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.
Work Environment & Expectations
- Full-time, in-office position based at the Chamber’s headquarters.
- Standard hours are Monday through Friday, with flexibility required for events, including evenings and weekends.
- Active participation in Chamber events and community functions is expected.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with both indoor and outdoor event responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
- Frequent use of computer and phone systems.
- Ability to work in varying environments and event conditions.
